Cadet Annual Awards 2007
For the year of 2006
For those of you who are not familiar with the arrangement, each year there are several awards given out at the annual inspection which are voted for by the staff. If there are any disputes, the OiC reserves the casting vote.
The Jack Day Award - Winner: Lucy Parker
Jack Day was a former St Albans Commanding Officer and donated this award
to be given, quite simply, to the best cadet of the year.
This cadet must have been a good example to their peers, an achiever, a motivator,
a leader and above all a team player. It's not uncommon for this award
to be shared. It has historically always gone to an older cadet, although
there is no rule saying it has to.
The Gosling Trophy - Winner: Ilse Sharp
Donated by Ray Gosling, the Gosling Trophy is awarded for the cadet who has
the highest standard of ceremonial. Including personal drill, power of
command and personal dress, this award has been closely fought for many
years.
The Expedition Trophy Award - Winner: Ilse Sharp
Awarded to the cadet whose expedition training techniques and skill levels
have either improved the most over the year, or have been at the highest
standard throughout the year. This will have been largely decided over
the Expedition Training competitions.
The Junior Sea Cadet Award - Winner: Callum Cornell
For
the best junior Sea Cadet.
The John Gunner Trophy - Winner: Tom Oakley
The award for the best sailor of the year.
The Raleigh Award - Winner: George Threadgold
This trophy is given to the cadet whose uniform standards have been consistently
high throughout the year.
The Consistency Trophy - Winner: Sam Smart
This is awarded
to the cadet who, whilst not being at the forefront of the pack, has consistently
competed for the unit throughout the year and consistently progressed.
The Special Endurance Award - Winner: Hayley Boothroyd
For attending everything throughout the year. Special award for this year only.
The Call-Buoy Award - Winner: Ben Lansdown
This is for the cadet who has achieved the most in the field of piping this year.
That can be in any of several categories, for example the most improvement,
a persistently high level of excellence or the most success in either District
Area or National competitions being a few examples.
The Ceremonial Cup - Winner: Laurie Wales
This Cup will be awarded to the cadet who, whilst showing the most enthusiasm,
has made the most advancement in the practice and knowledge of Parade and
Ceremonial Training and shows potential to continue improving.
The Alan
Tebby Marine Cadet Award - Winner: Steven Buck
Alan Tebby donated this award on his retirement as St Albans Commanding Officer.
It is to be awarded to the best Marine cadet of the year.
Canoeing Trophy - Winner: Hugo Oakley
This is to be presented to the cadet who has shown the most enthusiasm, represented
the unit at Area, District or Nationals, or has improved the most over the
last year.
The Shooting Trophy - Winner: Steven Smart
The award for shooting.
The Topper Trophy - Winner: Tom Oakley
The award for the best singlehanded "Topper" sailor of the year.
The Fred Nash Award - Winner: TI Roger Frost
Finally an award for the instructors, as voted secretly by themselves. Really
all our devoted instructors are winners, we couldn't continue without them!
