Monday 28th May 2007
On the 21st May 1982 the most famous ‘yomp’ in British military history was undertaken by the Royal Marines across the Falkland Islands. This historic 56 miles (90km) was completed in just 3 days while under constant enemy fire from the air, and in an area without cover, drinking water or means of subsistence. It was thought that this yomp from San Carlos to Port Stanley would take a minimum of eight days.
25 years on, Marine Cadets and Sea Cadets from Training Ship St Albans will commemorate those who fought and died in the Falklands war by completing a 56 mile ‘yomp’ of their own along The Ridgeway, starting near Swindon, Wiltshire and finishing at Ivinghoe Beacon, Bucks.

The 56 miles will be completed in stages with older cadets in Full Marching Order (as pictured above). We would like to ask you to please sponsor the team to complete this epic journey.
All money raised from this evolution will be used to fund the activities carried out by the St Albans Sea Cadets, in particular the overseas exchanges and outward bound activities taking place this year.
I WOULD LIKE TO SPONSOR THE ST ALBANS SEA CADETS’ COMMEMORATIVE 56 MILE ‘YOMP’ ALONG THE RIDGEWAY.
