For the second weekend St Albans Sea Cadets were sail racing, this time at an Districy Regatta. However upon arrival at the Unit early on Sunday morning they discovered there had been a break-in and vandalism. Undeterred 15 cadets went on to dominate the sailing regatta, with wins from Nichole Hughes & Flo Oakley in the Bosun class and Tom Oakley ruling the waves in Toppers. There was also rowing (pulling) and despite some very hard work St Albans only managed a second.
Meanwhile back at base, the Unit's Topper dinghy was discovered by a management committee member at the very far end of Verulam Lake. Recovering it he sank almost to his waist in the mud, and then had a very strenuous hike back to the unit with the (increasingly) heavy dinghy on a launching trailer! The dinghy has, like the Unit, suffered some mindless damage.
There's no time to be bored with St Albans Sea Cadets, see www.seacadetfun.com . It offers many fun opportunities and is open to boys and girls for 10 to 17 years and very inexpensive. The unit always welcomes new faces, just turn up at 7pm on a Tuesday or Friday night, at the unit, which is just behind Westminster Lodge swimming pool. Why not give it a try and make new friends and learn new skills, you've nothing to lose!
