St Albans Sea Cadets (TS St Albans) had a busy week taking part in the annual St George’s Day parade in London and visiting the St Albans Fire Station.
Junior cadets from TS St Albans visited the Fire Station in London Rd, St Albans last week as part of their general training and fire safety awareness. The cadets met a number of the fire-fighters, had a close look at the equipment and spent time learning more about fire safety, fire fighting.
Over the weekend 12 cadets, officers and instructors attended the St George’s Day Parade at the Cenotaph Whitehall in central London (19th April), the cadets forming part of the 200 strong parade of cadets.
Following the parade the TS St Albans Cadets were invited to nearby 10 Downing St were they were given a briefing on the building by the attending Police and then on to the Tower of London and were the cadets given a private tour of the Tower by one of the Beefeaters (Yeoman Warders).
Sergeant (SCC) Peter Lansdown, of TS St Albans Marine Cadet Detachment who organised the visits said:
“ The afternoon at the Tower in the company of the Yeoman Warders who demonstrated their impressive foot drill marching, convinced a number of the tourists that the cadets were part of the event.”
Patricia Gosling, Chair of St Albans Sea Cadets commented:
“We were delighted that we had been invited to take part in the St George’s Day celebrations and our cadets did us proud. The visit to No 10 & the Tower rounded off the day nicely .“
Life at St Albans Sea Cadets is serious fun and we welcome boys and girls aged 10 to 18 who want to learn more about kayaking, shooting, windsurfing, sailing, drill, camping/survival, first aid & orienteering and much more.
We meet Tuesday & Friday evenings 7pm behind Westminster Swimming pool and we invite those interested to just turn up and say hello.
