St Albans Sea Cadets wish to extend its’ most sincere congratulations on your appointment as Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath. We are delighted that you have been honoured for your service to the Royal Navy and indeed proud that you have achieved so much since you joined the Sea Cadet's at St. Albans as it's Unit Chaplain around 1990.

Chaplain of the Fleet and Archdeacon for the Royal Navy - The Venerable John Green

John Green

Born in 1953 in London’s Docklands, John Green attended South West Ham County Technical School.  He studied Applied Physics at Hendon College of Science and Technology and North East London Polytechnic, where he was awarded a Graduateship of the Institute of Physics.  He worked as an Electronics Engineer from 1973 until 1980, when he began training for the Ordained Ministry at Lincoln Theological College.  Deaconed in 1983 and Priested in 1984, he served in two parishes in the Diocese of St Albans.

Having joined the Royal Navy in 1991, his sea appointments have included the Third Destroyer Squadron, the ‘Small Ships’ of the Minor Warship Flotilla and, latterly, HMS Ark Royal (including service in the Arabian Gulf during the war with Iraq).  His shore appointments have included HMS Sultan (School of Marine Engineering), HM Naval Base Portsmouth, HMS Excellent and Staff Chaplain to the Chaplain of the Fleet.   Prior to taking up his appointment as Chaplain of the Fleet in March 2006, he was the Church of England Chaplain and MWS Chaplaincy Team Leader at HMS Collingwood.  He attended the Royal Navy Initial Staff Course at Greenwich in 1995, where he won the Herbert Lott award for ‘Best Student’.
